Gerónimo Rulli became a new reinforcement for Ajax , leaving Villarreal after the consecration of the Argentine National Team in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar , where many of the albiceleste footballers became one of the most renowned in the European transfer market.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper from La Plata had been targeted as the Dutch club's priority in this transfer window and  his arrival was finally finalized, which will be made official in the next few hours.  Ajax improved the first offer made a few weeks ago -5 million euros for the pass plus another 5 in bonuses- and there was an agreement between the two parties , according to the journalist Fabrizio Romano .

Rulli, the only member of the squad along with Franco Armani who did not add minutes with the National Team in Qatar, arrived at Villarreal at the end of 2020 . Since then, he has played 80 games with the Yellow Submarine shirt, won the Europa League in 2021 and reached the semifinals of the Champions League last season.
